BHP and SiTration Successfully Test New Copper Recovery Technology

Published: Jul 1, 2026 09:33
US-based materials recovery company SiTration announced that it has completed a five-week technology trial with BHP Invent and Copper South Australia to evaluate its proprietary mineral recovery process. The trial successfully recovered 99.99% purity gold and 99.9% purity copper from mining waste streams using SiTration's silicon-based electro-extraction technology. The company said the technology enables efficient recovery of high-purity metals directly from low-grade and complex processing streams, with the potential to reduce reagent consumption, lower processing costs and improve resource utilization. The technology is currently being tested on copper and gold waste streams from BHP operations and could support future recovery of low-grade copper material that is currently treated as waste.
