[SMM Analysis: High-End Battery Cell Demand Boost Drives Intensive Implementation of Silicon Carbon Anode New Projects Across Multiple Regions] Benefiting from the penetration of high-energy-density power batteries and the go-global dividends brought by export controls on artificial graphite, in June 2026 multiple regions in China intensively approved several new silicon carbon anode projects.

Benefiting from the penetration of high-energy-density power batteries and the overseas opportunities arising from export controls on artificial graphite, multiple new silicon carbon anode projects were approved in various regions across China in June 2026. Enterprises have been actively deploying advanced technology routes such as vapour deposition and high-performance silicon carbon, accelerating the industrialisation of the sector.

Anhui Li'er New Materials has made a major investment to build a project for producing 20,000 mt of vapour-deposited silicon carbon anode material annually, with a total investment exceeding 3.008 billion yuan. Covering over 100,000 m², the project is being constructed in two phases, targeting the mainstream deposition-based silicon carbon process route for high-end overseas power battery markets. Upon large-scale production, it is expected to significantly boost China's supply capacity for high-end silicon carbon.

Jiangsu Lihuang Technology has invested 50 million yuan to establish a pilot project with an annual capacity of 240 mt of silicon carbon, leveraging university R&D platforms to conduct small-batch trial production of new silicon carbon materials for solid-state batteries.

Jiangxi Na'er Lithium Battery saw its newly built project for producing 1,000 mt of silicon carbon anode annually enter the environmental impact assessment public notice stage.

Xuzhou Si Ainuode New Materials has invested a total of 360 million yuan to set up a 3,000 mt high-performance silicon carbon project. Built in two phases, it will gradually achieve the mass production and delivery of high-performance silicon carbon products.

Shengquan Group's new project is expected to add 10,000 mt of silicon carbon anode capacity, along with a supporting 15,000 mt capacity for porous carbon raw materials, to achieve self-sufficiency in key upstream raw materials and further reduce silicon carbon production costs.

Currently, following the conclusion of the US 337 patent investigation, Chinese silicon carbon enterprises are accelerating capacity deployment while also expediting differentiated process R&D and global patent portfolios, consolidating China's global supply chain advantage in silicon carbon through diversified technology routes.

[Brazil's Critical Minerals Progress Depends on Government Support, Industry Says]
At the Rio de Janeiro Energy Summit on June 25, panelists stated that without direct government support, Brazil will not advance its critical minerals sector, given the country's lack of infrastructure, technology, and long‑term investment. Analysts noted that minerals have become a strategic asset essential for ensuring technological leadership and energy security, and should no longer be viewed merely as extractive commodities. They added that a sound legal and regulatory framework is key to providing predictability and certainty for long‑term investment in the industry. Marcos Mesquita, Strategic Vice President of LPG distributor Copa Energia, said the mining sector should focus on diversifying extraction operations into multiple minerals and their by‑products to increase revenue. Mesquita added that Brazil should not emulate China, as it can leverage its abundant water resources and dominant renewable energy generation to build a more sustainable industry platform.
