[SMM Steel] SEA Slab Market Weakens as Indonesian Offers Fall

Published: Jun 30, 2026 15:24
[SEA] Southeast Asian slab trading stayed weak in June, with export prices moving lower. An Indonesian mill cut August-shipment HRC-grade slab offers to 495 USD/tonne FOB, down 15 USD/tonne w-o-w and 20 USD/tonne from early June, mainly due to poor sales. Vietnam slab offers stood near 510 USD/tonne FOB, but deals were limited. In SEA’s import market, Chinese slab was last traded at 510 USD/tonne CFR, while current tradable levels are no higher than 500 USD/tonne CFR.

[SMM Steel] Off-season effect compounded by policy wait-and-see, EU HRC price increase may be difficult to materialize
[EU] EU local steel demand remains weak due to poor weather conditions and extended summer holidays, and HRC prices are under downward pressure. Currently, some steel mills' ex-works quotations are around $775–781/mt EXW, but traders report that actual transaction prices are even lower and vary by region. Although there were rumors that large steel mills planned to increase prices by $57–80/mt from July to August, given the current weak conditions, the likelihood of further price increases remains unclear. Buyers are currently fully in a wait-and-see mode, awaiting clearer market conditions after July 1. In the short term, the overall market is expected to remain under pressure.

Killi Resources acquired an 80% interest in the Lodestone Iron Ore Project in Western Australia. The project currently has an inferred mineral resource of 110 million metric tons and shows potential to produce a high-grade magnetite concentrate (around 69% Fe), which could serve as a low-emission feedstock for EAF and DRI steelmaking.
