[SMM Survey] Central China Rolling Lines This Week: Steel Mills Plan to Reduce Production Load

Published: Jun 30, 2026 13:35
During the survey period (June 23–June 29), the production and capacity utilization rates of rebar and wire rod in Central China remained stable.
During the survey period (June 23 - June 29), rebar production and capacity utilization rate in Central China showed little change, with steel mills mostly maintaining their current production pace. On the inventory side, rainy weather affected outdoor construction, market confidence was weak, and end-user purchases were mainly rigid-demand, low-price deals, leading to continued accumulation of rebar inventory.

It is understood that per-ton steel profit in Central China has been continuously squeezed to the point of losses. Coupled with generally mediocre shipments, some steel mills plan to reduce production load on their rebar rolling lines in July. In the next period, the operating rate of regional steel mills is expected to remain stable, while production and capacity utilization rate will edge down.

During the survey period (June 23 - June 29), steel mills in Central China had no plans to adjust production on their wire rod and coiled rebar rolling lines, and wire rod supply remained at a low level. In terms of mill inventory, the inflow of external coiled rebar resources decreased slightly during the survey period, while the proportion of end-user purchases from local steel mills increased, causing coiled rebar inventory to shift from an increase to a decrease.

In the next period, steel mills in Central China are expected to mostly maintain their current production pace on wire rod and coiled rebar rolling lines, with production and operating rate likely to remain stable.
