Published: Jun 23, 2026 17:20
On June 22, CATL and Octopus Energy, the largest energy company in the UK, announced plans to establish a joint venture. The two parties will jointly build a heavy-duty truck battery swap network in Europe. CATL will introduce its Qiji battery swap technology to Europe, promoting the electrification transformation of road freight by enhancing the charging efficiency of heavy-duty trucks. According to the plan, in 2027, the two parties will complete the construction of the first batch of demonstration battery swap stations in the UK, prioritizing coverage of major highway trunk lines and key logistics ports. It is expected that by 2035, the battery swap station network will expand to more than 30 stations, with business reach extending to Scotland and Wales, forming a battery swap network covering the UK's core trunk routes.

Data Center Demand to Double Australia’s Electricity Demand by 2050
According to the latest roadmap from the power grid operator, data center electricity demand is expected to surge over the next 25 years, nearly doubling the electricity consumption of Australia’s main grid by 2050. In its biennial Integrated System Plan, the Australian Energy Market Operator pointed out that data centers will account for nearly 10% of the underlying demand in the National Electricity Market by 2050, four times the current share. The report confirms that the lowest-cost option is a power system based on renewable energy, connected through transmission and distribution networks, and supplemented by energy storage and natural gas. Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen said, “Our plan is to deliver cheaper, cleaner energy, using our own solar and wind power to protect our grid from global fluctuations.”

Ministry of Commerce and Six Other Departments: Rectify Illegal Sale of Retired Motor Vehicle Parts
The Ministry of Commerce and six other departments have formulated the Special Rectification Action Plan for Illegal Recycling and Dismantling of Retired Motor Vehicles, which is hereby issued. The plan highlights the rectification of the illegal sale of retired motor vehicle parts. Actions will be taken, in accordance with laws and regulations, against behaviors such as selling used NEV power batteries to organizations or individuals other than recycling service outlets or comprehensive utilization enterprises, refusing to submit traceability information or submitting false information, and selling or reselling dismantled used ternary catalytic converters to enterprises without proper processing qualifications. The parts registration ledgers of retired motor vehicle recycling enterprises will be checked. For cases where a large number of parts are missing, reverse investigations will be conducted to determine whether the enterprises collaborated with illegal recycling and dismantling "black workshops," receiving retired vehicles with certain parts removed and issuing "Recycling Certificates" in violation of regulations. The standardized use of national marks for remanufactured auto parts will be supervised. Illegal activities such as illegally refurbishing the "five major assemblies" and ternary catalytic converters of retired vehicles, and selling unqualified remanufactured parts without the "remanufactured product" label, will be investigated and dealt with according to the law.
