【SMM Steel】JSW Steel takes over BCCL Dugdha Coal Washery in India's first asset monetization

Published: Jun 23, 2026 17:06
【SMM Steel】Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) has transferred its 2 million tonnes per annum Dugdha Coal Washery to JSW Steel, marking the first coal washery asset monetization under the Ministry of Coal's infrastructure programme. JSW Steel secured the contract as developer and operator by bidding a 2.35% premium over the standard notified price. This partnership introduces private sector operations into state-owned infrastructure to upgrade resource utilization and expand national coal beneficiation capabilities. The project aims to supply washed coking coal to the domestic steel industry, supporting the national Mission Coking Coal strategy to lower import dependency. The arrangement is expected to optimize supply chain productivity throughout Jharkhand and adjacent regions.

[Turkey] Weak Demand Drives Down Rebar and Wire Rod Export Prices, Mills Offer Concessions for Orders
[Turkey] Weighed down by weak fundamentals, the export price of Turkish rebar assessed by the Turkish Steel Exporters' Association (MESTEEL) recently pulled back to $580–590/mt FOB, while wire rod export prices also dipped to $595–605/mt FOB. As demand shows no sign of improvement, in order to secure enough forward export orders to sustain operations, steel mills are still willing to offer concessions and compete for orders during negotiations.

[UK final steel trade measures approved, but quota concerns remain]
The UK will implement its final steel trade measures from July, keeping in-quota steel imports duty-free and imposing a 50% tariff on above-quota volumes. UK Steel welcomed the framework, saying it could support domestic resilience, capacity utilisation and investment. However, concerns remain over high quota allocations for galvanized steel, packaging steel and hollow sections. Tata Steel UK said some quota levels may still allow heavy import penetration and pressure domestic producers.
