[Zinc concentrate TCs remain low, keep watching subsequent smelter operations]: From weekly data, the SMM Zn50 domestic weekly TC average fell by 150 yuan/mt Zn WoW to -200 yuan/mt Zn, and the SMM import zinc concentrate index fell by $0.56/dmt WoW to -$71.76/dmt..

SMM June 18 news:

On a weekly basis, the SMM Zn50 domestic weekly TC average fell 150 yuan/mt Zn WoW to -200 yuan/mt Zn, and the SMM Imported Zinc Concentrate Index fell $0.56/dmt WoW to -$71.76/dmt.

Domestic Ore Market. As of mid-month, most domestic smelters were executing previously signed contracts, with limited new spot purchases during the week. Overall, TCs remained low across many regions in China. According to SMM, some domestic smelters carried out routine maintenance and production cuts in June, but overall refined zinc output did not decline significantly MoM. The tight domestic ore supply has not yet improved, and the market continues to monitor smelter operations going forward.

Imported Ore Market. Overseas mines have been constantly disrupted recently. This week, imported ore offers remained scarce, with some heard at around -$80 to -$90/dmt. However, smelters exhibited strong wait-and-see sentiment, and the overall trading atmosphere was relatively sluggish during the week. Market sources indicate that another tender for Dugald River zinc concentrates was awarded at around -$120 to -$130/dmt, for shipment at end-Q4, with a volume of 10,000 mt. The market awaits subsequent tender results for other ore types.

On June 16, 2026, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck Dachaidan, Haixi, Qinghai. According to SMM, major zinc smelters and mines in Qinghai were unaffected for now. SMM will continue to follow up on subsequent impacts.

According to market sources, the situation in Bolivia has been turbulent recently, with nationwide protests severely disrupting transportation. Exports and transportation of Bolivian zinc concentrates have been hindered. The duration and magnitude of impact remain unknown, and SMM will continue to monitor subsequent developments.

This week, SMM zinc concentrate inventories at main ports in China totaled 280,000 mt in physical content, down 16,000 mt WoW, with Fangchenggang port inventory accounting for most of the decline.

Storm High-Grade Copper PFS Slated for Q3, Regional Targets Return High-Grade Zinc up to 30.8%
American West Metals reported that the Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) for its high-grade Storm project in Nunavut, Canada, is slated for completion in Q3 2026, which will detail the parameters of a direct shipping ore (DSO) operation. Since the completion of the PEA last March, JORC-compliant resources have expanded by over 20% to 28.22 million tonnes, containing 608.7 million lbs of copper and 2.97 million oz of silver. While finalizing the PFS and advancing mine permitting, American West is expanding its exploration scope across the 110-kilometer-long belt of high-grade sediment-hosted copper and zinc mineralization. Notably, the Tempest target, located 40 kilometers south of the main Storm area, is defined by a 4-kilometer zone of surface gossans where grab samples have returned extraordinary grades of up to 30.8% zinc and 38.2% copper, highlighting the district's significant polymetallic potential.

Spartan Metals Confirms Two Tungsten Skarn Zones at Eagle Project with Zinc Grades up to 3.3%
Spartan Metals announced the confirmation of two tungsten skarn zones at the Tungstonia claims within its wholly owned Eagle Project in Nevada, US. As part of its ongoing exploration programme launched in May 2026, rock sampling from the historic Yellow Jacket Mine within the project returned tungsten trioxide grades ranging from 0.89% to 1.87%. Crucially, assays from the mine entrance and dumps detected notable concentrations of zinc (up to 3.3%) and 1,320 ppm beryllium, the latter being a newly discovered critical metal at the property. Backpack core drilling at the mine also intercepted a 0.3-meter interval grading 0.21% tungsten trioxide and 0.33% zinc. The confirmed mineralization, spanning an estimated 2-kilometer area, hosts a complex system of tungsten, molybdenum, beryllium, rubidium, and silver. Spartan Metals intends to launch approximately 3,000 meters of diamond core drilling at selected targets from early to mid-August to further untangle this expanding mineralized system.

Vizsla Copper Commences 10,000m Drilling at Alaska Palmer VMS Project, Targeting High-Grade Copper-Zinc Mineralization
Vizsla Copper announced the commencement of diamond drilling at its Palmer volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) project in southeast Alaska, launching the first phase of a multi-year exploration programme. The fully funded 2026 campaign will utilize two drill rigs to complete approximately 10,000 meters of drilling during the field season, with initial work focused on defining and expanding the high-grade copper-rich core at the South Wall Zone. According to the company's 2025 NI 43-101 technical report, Palmer hosts a substantial critical metals endowment, including an indicated mineral resource of 4.77 mt grading 1.69% copper and 5.17% zinc, alongside an inferred resource of 12 mt grading 0.57% copper and 3.92% zinc. The company plans to expand drilling to the HG and Waterfall prospects later in the season while advancing environmental and technical evaluations across more than 15 kilometers of prospective stratigraphy.
