USA Rare Earths Launches Hydrometallurgical Facility in Colorado, Targets 2026 Oxide Production

Published: Jun 17, 2026 16:30
[SMM Rare Earth News] USA Rare Earths (USAR) announced that its hydrometallurgical demonstration facility in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, has officially begun operations. The facility targets production of its first separated oxides in Q3 2026, at which point it will become one of the few Western enterprises capable of commercially supplying strategic heavy rare earth oxides such as dysprosium, terbium, and yttrium. The plant features a fully automated design and is equipped with multi-stage solvent extraction circuits and a real-time monitoring system. Its demonstration project will validate the processing flows for three raw materials in phases and in parallel: ore from the Round Top project in Texas, third-party mixed rare earth carbonates (including feedstock from Serra Verde), and the recycling of NdFeB magnet grinding scrap. This start-up marks a key step for USAR in building a complete rare earth value chain encompassing mining, processing, metals, and magnet manufacturing.

Idaho Strategic Resources Discovers Yttrium-Rich Heavy Rare Earth Ore at Diamond Creek Project
According to Miningweekly, Idaho Strategic Resources (ISR), listed on the New York Stock Exchange, has discovered heavy rare earth ore containing yttrium at its Diamond Creek project in Idaho, US. The company's latest sampling in four different exploration areas along a 3.2-kilometer linear belt showed rare earth mineralization. From north to south, the four areas are Contact, "LuckyGem," Simer, and Frank Burch. The average total rare earth oxide (TREO) grade of these four areas is 1.8%, with enrichment in heavy rare earths, and the heavy rare earth oxide (HREO) grade generally exceeds 0.2%, including a yttrium oxide grade of 0.13%.

Rare Earth Prices Fall Under Pressure, Tug-of-War Between Upstream and Downstream in Stalemate [SMM Rare Earth Daily Review]
[SMM Rare Earth Daily Review: Rare Earth Prices Fall Under Pressure, Upstream-Downstream Stalemate] Overall, rare earth market prices are broadly in the doldrums, mainly due to the dual impact of reduced downstream inquiries and the decline in Pr-Nd oxide futures prices. Under such circumstances, suppliers showed little initiative in offering, the tug-of-war between upstream and downstream remained at a stalemate, and market trading was sluggish. In the short term, Pr-Nd product prices are expected to consolidate within a narrow range, weighed by the upstream-downstream stalemate.
