【SMM Steel】Major fire severely damages key production line at Tata Steel's Port Talbot plant

【SMM Steel】A major fire broke out at a processing line at Tata Steel's Port Talbot plant in south Wales around 8pm on June 3 causing part of the building to collapse. Firefighters from 16 stations worked through the night with the response scaled down the following evening. Tata Steel confirmed all personnel were safely evacuated with no injuries. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham confirmed the fire caused substantial damage to a vital production line urging Tata and the government to rebuild operations swiftly and protect jobs at the plant and across the supply chain. The company said the incident was unrelated to a controlled demolition of a redundant gas holder carried out earlier that evening. The full extent of damage and production impact has not yet been assessed.

[Vietnam] HRC Prices Drop Amid Low-Priced Imports and Weak Demand, Hoa Phat Cuts by $34/tonne
[Vietnam] Currently, CFR Vietnam offers for SS400 and SAE1006 2mm thick coils are being maintained at 540-550 USD/tonne. Hoa Phat Group slashed its prices significantly this month, also mainly driven by intense competition from low-priced imports, with a MoM plunge of 34 USD/tonne to 550-551 USD/tonne (CFR domestic port). Market participants are now focusing on digesting this new price level. In the short term, Vietnam HRC prices are expected to remain under pressure with an overall weak trend. Close attention should be paid to buyers' actual willingness to hold prices firm and the subsequent deal follow-through after Hoa Phat's price adjustment.
