Copper Cathode Rod Producers See WoW Uptick, But YoY Decline Amid High Prices and Weak New Orders

[SMM Copper Express] The operating rate of domestic copper cathode rod producers rose 4.82 percentage points WoW this week but pulled back 9 percentage points YoY. The increase in the operating rate was mainly driven by the concentrated scheduling of existing orders, while new orders were weak. High copper prices suppressed downstream wire and cable procurement. Enamelled wire orders were moderate, but high inventory weighed on subsequent production.

The operating rate of copper anode enterprises in China is expected to rise by 0.18 percentage points MoM in June 2026

[SMM Copper Anode Express] SMM expects that in June 2026, the overall operating rate of China copper anode enterprises will rise 0.18 percentage points MoM to 47.55%, with the operating rate of ore-derived copper anode enterprises expected to fall 3.53 percentage points MoM to 72.00%, and that of scrap-derived copper anode enterprises expected to rise 1.70 percentage points MoM to 37.56%. (Referring solely to the non-captive copper anode portion.)
