[SMM Aluminum Flash News] Rising Aluminum Prices Increase Cost Pressure on US Solar Industry

Published: May 28, 2026 10:08
Rising aluminum prices linked to Middle East supply disruptions are increasing installation costs for the US solar industry. Aluminum is widely used in solar mounting systems, rails and brackets, and industry participants said solar racking prices have already risen by around 20%. Since late February, LME aluminum prices have increased about 15%, while COMEX aluminum futures gained more than 30%. The US Energy Information Administration expects utility-scale solar additions to reach 43.4 GW in 2026, but higher aluminum costs could weaken project profitability. Industry estimates suggest rising aluminum frame costs may add around USD 5 billion in expenses across 500 GW of planned US solar projects.
