[SMM Aluminum Flash News] Audi A8 Helped Drive Aluminum into Mainstream Auto Manufacturing

Published: May 25, 2026 18:14
Aluminum began gaining wider use in vehicle manufacturing in the 1990s when Audi launched the aluminum-bodied A8 to reduce vehicle weight compared with traditional steel designs. To offset the additional weight from its Quattro all-wheel-drive system, Audi developed the Aluminum Space Frame (ASF), allowing the first-generation A8 to weigh about 500 pounds less than a comparable BMW 7 Series. The lighter structure improved handling, fuel efficiency and performance. The success of the A8 later encouraged automakers including Ford and Jaguar to expand aluminum applications, reinforcing aluminum’s growing role in vehicle lightweighting, corrosion resistance and recyclability.

Jianghai Capacitor Reports 16.96% Revenue Growth in 2026 Semi-Annual Report, Advances in R&D and Production
On August 20, Jianghai Capacitor announced its semi-annual report for 2026, with revenue of 3.151 billion yuan, up 16.96% YoY; net profit attributable to shareholders of the publicly listed firm of 383 million yuan, up 6.92% YoY. During the reporting period, aluminum electrolytic capacitors continued R&D and upgrading: the specific capacity of etched foil continuously improved, and N-type conductive polymer materials gradually achieved industrialisation. New and renovated full-automatic bullhorn production lines for data centers were built; next-generation aluminum capacitors such as solid-liquid hybrid and MLPC products achieved technological upgrades and capacity expansion. Film capacitors leveraged their unique and superior performance in specific products within niche markets to rapidly increase production capacity and capture market share. The era of supercapacitors has arrived, with emerging application fields such as power frequency regulation and data centers showing strong demand and achieving large-scale delivery. The company plans not to distribute cash dividends, not to issue bonus shares, and not to convert capital reserves into share capital.

Xingfa Aluminum Sees H1 2026 Net Profit Drop to 165-171M Yuan Amid Rising Costs and Competition
August 20, Xingfa Aluminum announced that the Group expects to record net profit attributable to equity shareholders of the Company for H1 2026 in the range of 165 million yuan to 171 million yuan, compared with approximately 270.9 million yuan in H1 2025. The Board believes that the decrease in net profit is mainly due to intensified industry competition and the continuous rise in aluminum raw material prices, which put pressure on the Group's product gross profit, leading to a decline in net profit attributable to shareholders of the Group. On August 20, Xinjiang Joinworld disclosed its semi-annual report, with H1 revenue of 4.085 billion yuan, up 2.05% YoY; net profit attributable to the parent of 523 million yuan, up 33.55% YoY.
