Copper Prices Drove a Phased Recovery in Enamelled Wire Orders

The pullback in copper prices at the beginning of the week drove a phased increase in orders. Downstream cargo pick-up performance was moderate. This week (5.15-5.21), order volume in the copper enamelled wire industry grew 1.36 percentage points WoW, and the operating rate edged up 0.27 percentage points WoW.

Shandong Spot Copper Market

The spot copper market in Shandong remained sluggish in trading activity this week, with spot premiums weakening further WoW. Although the center of copper prices pulled back somewhat during the week, prices continued to fluctuate at highs. Downstream demand remained persistently weak, and suppliers lowered their spot quotes to facilitate shipments, but actual transactions were still unsatisfactory.
