Published: May 14, 2026 14:08
[SMM Aluminum Express News] Canadian Energy Metals said its Project Thor in Saskatchewan could become a major North American alumina and potentially aluminum hub. The company estimates production of ~1.8 million tpy of alumina from one of the world’s largest known alumina-bearing shale deposits, with a pre-feasibility study due by end-2026. Longer term, CEM is evaluating downstream aluminum smelting in Saskatchewan, though the project will require significant additional power infrastructure to proceed.
