Green Hydrogen Tracker — Zhongke Yitan Makes Two Moves in Inner Mongolia: Wulate Houqi 6.9 Billion Green Methanol-to-SAF Project Approved

Published: May 12, 2026 13:57
Following the filing of the Chifeng project in April 2026, Zhongke Yitan's second green fuel base in Inner Mongolia — the Urad Houqi 500,000 mt green methanol-to-SAF project — was recently officially filed. The two projects have a combined investment of over 14.4 billion yuan, located in Bayannur and Chifeng respectively, and will simultaneously construct hydrogen production, methanol production, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facilities.

The "500,000 mt Green Methanol-to-SAF Project" invested and constructed by Zhongke Yitan Energy Technology (Urad Rear Banner) Co., Ltd. has completed filing at the industrial park in Urad Rear Banner, Bayannur City. The total investment of the project is 6.935 billion yuan, and construction is planned to commence in September 2026 and be completed by June 2029.

The project has an overall planned capacity of 500,000 mt of liquid sunshine green methanol, specifically covering hydrogen production, methanol production, and SAF production — three major stages. The main construction components include:

  • a 156,000 Nm³/h hydrogen production unit,

  • a 180,000 mt/year biomass methanol synthesis unit,

  • a 320,000 mt/year CO₂-plus-green-hydrogen methanol synthesis unit,

  • a 150,000 mt/year methanol-to-sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) unit,
as well as other supporting ancillary facilities.

Meanwhile, another project by Zhongke Yitan in Hexigten Banner, Chifeng City — the "Wind and Solar Power Hydrogen-to-Methanol and SAF Integration Project" — was also filed on April 17, 2026. The project is undertaken by Zhongke Yitan Energy Technology (Chifeng) Co., Ltd., with a total investment of 7.5 billion yuan. It is located in Bayanduhumu Gacha, Darhan Wula Sumu, Hexigten Banner, with a construction period from May 2026 to December 2028.

The main construction scope of the Chifeng project includes:

  • an electrolysis hydrogen production line with an annual green hydrogen capacity of 62,500 mt,

  • a synthesis production line with an annual green methanol capacity of 500,000 mt (including biomass gasification, combined purification, and other units),

  • and a synthesis production line with an annual SAF capacity of 100,000 mt.

Both projects are independent filing entities, with clear distinctions in project companies, construction sites, investment amounts, and capacity plans. Through simultaneous deployment in Urad Rear Banner and Hexigten Banner, Zhongke Yitan is building large-scale clean fuel production capabilities in Inner Mongolia covering green methanol and sustainable aviation fuel.

Recently, the annual 30,000-ton retired power battery comprehensive utilization project invested by the company commenced construction in the Changjiang (Changjiang) Clean Energy High-tech Industrial Park Circular Economy Demonstration Zone. According to public information, the total investment of the project is RMB 135 million, covering an area of about 30 mu, located in the above-mentioned industrial park, and constructed in two phases. Upon completion, it will achieve an annual processing capacity of 30,000 tons of waste LIB cells, stably producing high value-added recycled products such as comprehensive utilization batteries, copper granules, aluminum granules, battery casings, and LIB black mass.

Recently, the management committee and local government released the public notice on the proposed approval of the EIA report for the new energy vehicle power battery material processing, battery cascade utilization and resource center project (re-filed). The project involves a total investment of RMB 500 million, located in the Lingang Economic and Technological Development Zone. It consists of one dismantling & cascade utilization production line, one black mass preparation (cell crushing) production line, and one lithium carbonate production line. Upon completion, it will achieve Phase I annual dismantling capacity of 60,000 tons of power LIB packs (including 20,000 tons of cell crushing and 10,000 tons of cell cascade utilization), and Phase II annual output of 3,973 tons of lithium carbonate.
