[Solar PV: Arizona Sun Pond Solar+Storage Begins Operations]

Published: May 7, 2026 09:32
Longroad Energy started commercial operations at its Sun Pond project in Arizona, combining 111 MW of solar with 340 MWh of storage. Part of the 1.6 GW Sun Streams Complex, the facility uses First Solar modules and Sungrow inverters. Output is secured under long-term PPAs with Ava Community Energy and SJCE, providing reliable power for 35,000 homes while enhancing grid stability in Maricopa County.

[Solar: US CBP finds Waaree evaded tariffs on Vietnam and Malaysia solar cells]
US Customs and Border Protection has issued a final determination finding that Waaree Energies evaded tariffs on solar cells from Vietnam and Malaysia between 2021 and June 23, 2026. CBP will assess anti-dumping duties of up to 271.28% on Waaree’s imported solar modules found to be subject to the tariffs, while continuing to suspend liquidation until the final duty bill is settled or any appeal is resolved. The investigation was launched in June 2025 under EAPA case 8163 following a petition by US solar manufacturers. CBP said Waaree was able to show it had enough non-Chinese cells to account for its US module imports, but found that the company had misreported the country of origin for certain imports over a four-year period.

[Solar: Africa’s solar market diversifies as C&I demand grows]
The Africa Solar Industry Association said Africa’s solar market is becoming more diversified, with countries such as Tanzania, Zambia and Algeria making notable progress in utility-scale solar deployment this year. Beyond large-scale projects, commercial and industrial solar demand continues to grow, supported by improving project economics. Solar system costs in parts of Africa now range from around USD 0.08/kWh to USD 0.20/kWh, well below diesel generation at about USD 0.38/kWh. AFSIA said data centers and mining companies are emerging as active solar buyers. SMM believes that as costs fall, demand for reliable power rises and financing capacity improves, Africa’s solar growth will increasingly come from a wider range of national markets and C&I applications.
