Electric Drive Assembly Lightweighting: High-End Applications of Magnesium Alloy Housings
During the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, Xingqu Technology unveiled the TP501, a 900V high performance magnesium-aluminum alloy coaxial dual electric drive assembly, featuring a hard-mold semi-solid magnesium alloy die-cast housing that achieves a 30% weight reduction. It is compatible with high-end NEV car models and has already secured letters of intent from multiple automakers.

1 Yian Technology (300328): A leader in magnesium alloy integrated die casting with proprietary tooling processes and semi-solid die casting technology, achieving high yield rates and controllable costs. Its 6,100T large die casting machine is in the client engagement stage, while existing capacity is concentrated in the 650T–4,200T range, with a strategic focus on high-value 1,200T–4,200T production lines. At the end of 2025, the company secured a 430 million yuan magnesium alloy powertrain housing nomination order covering the full lifecycle. Molds and samples have been completed and submitted for validation, with mass production expected in June 2026. In 2026Q1, revenue reached 355 million yuan (+9.29% YoY), with significant growth in the automotive lightweighting business.
2 Chenzhì Lightweighting: On April 8, in collaboration with Changan Automobile, the company successfully produced the first sample from its 5,000T magnesium alloy TPI semi-solid injection molding production line, targeting ultra-large components such as auto body structural parts, tailgate inner panels, and electric drive housings. Compared with traditional high-pressure die casting, this process improves casting mechanical performance by 20% and material utilization rate by 15%, eliminates the smelting process, reduces energy consumption, and addresses the safety issue of magnesium melt oxidation, accelerating NEV lightweighting upgrades.

Magnesium alloys are penetrating from small parts into large structural components and core electric drive parts, with semi-solid die casting becoming the mainstream technology to address traditional die casting defects. OEM high-voltage platform upgrades (e.g., 900V) are further boosting demand for magnesium alloy housings, and 2026 is expected to see a mass production peak.

Maputo shipments increased from 389,300 mt in the previous week, while Richards Bay shipments eased from 180,400 mt and Mersin shipments declined from 66,600 mt. The stronger overall departures, led by Maputo, point to increased seaborne chrome ore flows from Southern Africa during the latest reporting week, with the port distribution highlighting the continued importance of Mozambique and South Africa's export corridors in global chrome ore supply.
