[SMM Analysis] January & February Imports and Exports of Hydrometallurgy Intermediate Products

In January 2026, SMM hydrometallurgy intermediate products imports reached 172,151 mt in physical content, up 5% MoM. In February 2026, SMM hydrometallurgy intermediate products imports reached 124,548 mt in physical content, down 28% MoM.

According to the latest data from the SMM Customs Database, SMM imports of hydrometallurgy intermediate products reached 163,318 mt in physical content in January 2026, up 5% MoM and up 12.4% YoY. By country, the main increase this month came from imports of hydrometallurgy intermediate products from Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Finland, and Spain.

According to the latest data from the SMM Customs Database, SMM imports of hydrometallurgy intermediate products reached 124,548 mt in physical content in February 2026, down 28% MoM and down 3% YoY. By country, the main increase this month came from imports of hydrometallurgy intermediate products from Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Finland, and Spain.

[SMM Nickel Flash] According to a CNBC Indonesia report on March 27, Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia revealed that the government was studying the imposition of export tariffs on processed nickel products, particularly NPI, to address global uncertainties and increase state fiscal revenue. At present, the Indonesian government was still calculating the applicable formula, plan, and tariff rate level for the NPI export tax.

[SMM Stainless Steel Flash] Shandong Xingyi 1.05B Yuan Precision Cold Rolling Project to Start Production in October
Shandong Xingyi Metallurgical Equipment Co., Ltd. is moving forward with its high-speed precision cold rolling mill manufacturing project in Guan County, Liaocheng. With a total investment of 1.05 billion yuan, the facility features three interconnected stainless steel workshops designed for fully integrated, end-to-end production of cold rolling equipment. Having broken ground in June 2025, the project has completed its foundation work and is on track for an October 2026 launch. Once operational, it will produce 30 sets of cold rolling equipment annually, filling a key gap in the region’s high-end machinery manufacturing sector.
