[SMM PV News] Indonesia-Singapore Solar Export Snagged by 'Unbankable' 5-Year Permit Rule

Published: Mar 09, 2026 16:56 (GMT+8)
Indonesia's planned solar energy exports from Batam to Singapore are stalled due to financing hurdles. Developers aim to deliver up to 3.4 GW by 2028 but struggle to secure bank loans because an Indonesian regulation requires export permits to be renewed every five years. This clashes with the 20-25 year certainty that financiers demand, rendering the massive projects 'unbankable'.

[SMM PV Flash] Avaada’s Additional 7.1 GW TOPCon Cell Capacity Receives India’s ALMM Certification
On November 2, Indian solar manufacturer Avaada Electro received approval from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), with its 7.1 GW N-type TOPCon solar cell manufacturing capacity successfully included in India's Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM). The company also introduced a new solar module product with an output power of up to 745 W. The certification is expected to further expand India's domestic supply of ALMM-compliant TOPCon solar cells, while highlighting the continued efforts of Indian solar manufacturers to upgrade towards N-type technologies and strengthen their vertical integration strategies.

[SMM PV Flash] IEA: India’s Renewable Capacity Surpasses 300 GW, Solar PV to Drive Future Growth
According to the Renewables 2026 – India Market Report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA), India’s renewable energy capacity surpassed 300 GW in 2026, nearly quadrupling over the past decade. India has also become the world’s second-largest solar module manufacturer. The report forecasts that India’s renewable energy capacity will reach approximately 530 GW by 2030, with solar PV accounting for more than 80% of additional capacity. Meanwhile, grid expansion, energy storage development and power system flexibility remain key factors influencing the deployment of future solar PV projects.

A Qcells spokesperson has confirmed a restructuring of its German subsidiary around research and development, with some job losses in sales and business development alongside an expansion of its German R&D workforce. The company denied plans to cease European operations or withdraw from solar manufacturing, stating that other regions, including the United States, remain unchanged. The restructuring concerns its European organisation and commercial footprint rather than a global shutdown.
