[Accelerated Improvement of the Magnesium Industry Standard System: Multiple Key Standards Released and Implemented in Quick Succession] Recently, multiple policies and standards for the magnesium industry have been released in quick succession, covering key areas such as data standardization and carbon footprint accounting, with continuous acceleration in the construction of the industry's standard system.

Recently, multiple policies and standards in the magnesium industry have been intensively released, covering key areas such as data standardization and carbon footprint accounting, accelerating the construction of the industry's standard system.

Three Group Standards for Magnesium-Based Material Data Passed Project Approval Evaluation

Recently, an evaluation meeting for the project approval of three group standards for magnesium-based material data, led by Chongqing University and hosted by Mingyuehu Laboratory, was held in Chongqing. The "Material Data—Magnesium and Magnesium Alloy Data Resource Catalog," "Material Data—Magnesium-Based Structural-Functional Integrated Data Template," and "Material Data—Magnesium-Based ESS Data Template" successfully passed the review. Each of the three standards has its own focus and will establish a systematic data resource system, standardize data requirements for structural-functional integration and the ESS sector, fill gaps in industry data standards, and provide a unified data foundation for magnesium material R&D and process optimization. The drafting group will next refine the text and advance follow-up work for project approval.

Carbon Footprint Accounting Standard for Primary Magnesium Ingots Released and Implemented

On February 2, 2026, the MIIT, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and two other departments announced the third batch of 73 group standards for industrial product carbon footprint accounting rules. The "Greenhouse Gases—Quantification Methods and Requirements for Product Carbon Footprint—Primary Magnesium Ingot" (T/CNIA 0295-2025) was simultaneously released and implemented. This standard specifies the quantification methods, scope, and accounting requirements for the "cradle-to-gate" carbon footprint of primary magnesium ingots, covering the entire process from raw and auxiliary material acquisition to product production, providing a normative basis for the industry's low-carbon transition. Subsequently, efforts will be made to systematically convert group standards into national/industry standards and promote international mutual recognition, enhancing China's standard-setting influence in the green and low-carbon field.
