On January 30, HTWO Guangzhou (Hyundai Motor Hydrogen Fuel Cell Guangzhou Co., Ltd.) and Kawo Group (Skyworth Auto) jointly held a hydrogen bus delivery and experience event in Guangzhou Huangpu, delivering 249 hydrogen fuel cell buses in bulk to Guangzhou Bus Group. This delivery marked a major breakthrough in China's hydrogen transportation sector and served as a milestone event in Guangzhou's "16th Five-Year Plan" hydrogen strategy. Relevant leaders from Guangzhou and Nanjing, along with representatives from multiple cooperative units, attended to witness this important moment.
As Hyundai Motor's first overseas comprehensive hydrogen base, HTWO Guangzhou has been deeply cultivating China's hydrogen ecosystem since its commencement of production in June 2023, collaborating with local enterprises to accelerate technological industrialisation. The delivered 8.5-meter hydrogen fuel cell buses, jointly developed by both parties, are equipped with HTWO Guangzhou's 90kW hydrogen fuel cell system, achieving a power generation efficiency of 64%, a 5-minute refuelling time for a 576-kilometer driving range, and emitting only pure water as tailpipe discharge. Featuring innovative designs such as a short rear overhang, the buses offer spacious interiors, making them suitable for high-frequency public transport operations and providing a new paradigm for urban green transformation.
Zhu Ping, CEO of Kawo Group, stated that this large-scale delivery represents a deep integration of international cutting-edge technology and local manufacturing experience, offering a reliable model for the commercialisation of hydrogen transportation. Kawo Group will continue to be driven by technology and collaborate with partners to promote the high-quality development of green transportation.
Choi Doo-ho, General Manager of HTWO Guangzhou, pointed out that this delivery signifies a critical step towards the large-scale commercial use of hydrogen energy. With its efficient capacity built and operational, HTWO Guangzhou, in a strong partnership with Kawo Group and Guangzhou Bus Group, will contribute to the realisation of the "dual carbon" goals. In the future, they will continue to deepen cooperation to support the development of Guangzhou's hydrogen transportation.
After the ceremony, attendees visited the delivered buses, Hyundai NEXO hydrogen fuel cell SUVs, and other exhibits, gaining an in-depth understanding of the advantages of hydrogen technology. The concentrated delivery of 249 buses has laid a solid foundation for the green public transport system in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, providing a replicable practice sample for hydrogen industrialisation, which will strongly advance the national "dual carbon" strategy and energy structure transformation.
