2026 Galvanizing Enterprise Chinese New Year Break Arrangements [SMM Analysis]

Published: Feb 4, 2026 18:42
Approaching the Chinese New Year break, galvanising enterprises are expected to arrange their holiday schedules. According to SMM communications, 34 enterprises are involved this time, with a capacity of 25.03 million mt. The Chinese New Year break is expected to affect zinc consumption by approximately 51,484 mt, with an average holiday duration of around 20 days, an increase of about 1 day YoY. Although Q4 demand was better than Q3, it remained weaker than the same period in previous years overall. In January, zinc ingot prices rose rapidly, while galvanized sheet processing fees were difficult to raise, resulting in cost pressure that led to losses for enterprises, forcing them to initiate early holiday production cuts. In addition, low temperatures in northern regions prompted some end-users to halt operations early, leading to a further pullback in demand, with most downstream enterprises entering the holiday around month-end January. Enterprises are expected to resume production gradually from late February to early March, and SMM will continue to track the operating dynamics of the galvanising industry.
