Large-Scale Production Cuts and Shutdowns at Smelters Expected to Slow Down the Growth of Finished Product Inventories Next Week [SMM Secondary Lead Inventory Weekly Review]

Published: Jan 30, 2026 16:04

SMM Jan. 30:

Secondary lead suppliers maintained firm offers due to cost pressure, diminishing the price advantage of secondary lead. Additionally, weak end-use consumption led to low stockpiling willingness among downstream battery enterprises before the Chinese New Year. Weekly finished product inventories of secondary lead rose by 1,500 mt WoW to 35,000 mt. Most battery producers have completed pre-holiday stockpiling, with some planning to pick up goods under long-term contracts and halting spot order purchases. As production cuts and halts expand among secondary lead smelters and supply tightens, the pace of finished product inventory buildup is expected to slow down next week.
