China's First 30MW Water Electrolysis Hydrogen Production Demonstration Base Operates Smoothly for Over 22,000 Hours!

The first 30MW electrolysis water hydrogen production demonstration base in China, constructed by Sunshine Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd., was completed and put into operation in June 2020. As of January 2026, it had stably operated for over 22,000 hours.

China's first 30MW water electrolysis hydrogen production demonstration base has achieved stable operation for 22,000 hours and completed over 10,000 systematic demonstrations. Built and put into operation in June 2020 by Sungrow Hydrogen Technology Co., Ltd., this base is the largest, most comprehensive, and earliest-established professional demonstration facility for water electrolysis hydrogen production in China. It has now obtained TÜV Rheinland witness laboratory accreditation and CNAS recognition.

The base features six core testing platforms, establishing a full-chain digital verification system covering "materials-equipment-systems." It can simulate various extreme operating conditions, focusing on overcoming industry challenges such as multi-mode variable-power hydrogen production and efficient coordination between electricity and hydrogen. This provides comprehensive scenario support for new technology verification and achievement transformation. Its 2,000 Nm³/h digital intelligent electrolyzer underwent rigorous testing—including 3,200 hours of operation and thousands of start-stop cycles under simulated fluctuating wind and solar power conditions—fully validating core characteristics such as durability, high efficiency, and stability.



Industry experts pointed out that the alkaline electrolyzer sector currently faces issues of involution. This demonstration base, with its extensive real-world operational data under complex conditions over long periods, has set a benchmark for performance verification in the industry. It emphasizes that product innovation must prioritize economic viability, adhering to initiatives for healthy industry development and supporting high-quality growth and large-scale integration of renewable energy. A representative from Sungrow Hydrogen stated that the base has become a crucial foundation for the company’s core technological breakthroughs. By tackling key challenges, they have developed flexible green electricity-based hydrogen production solutions and established a complete commercial technology pathway, aligning with the company’s development direction of "flexible innovation, innovation engine, and global connectivity."
