【SMM Steel】Abu Dhabi-based steel group Arabian Gulf Steel Industries is considering a potential takeover of UK steel assets previously controlled by Sanjeev Gupta. The interest centers on Speciality Steels UK, a company that was placed into compulsory liquidation last year following prolonged financial difficulties. Speciality Steels UK operates production sites in South Yorkshire and previously employed around 1,500 workers. The UK's insolvency authorities are currently seeking buyers for the business, and the Abu Dhabi group is reportedly evaluating options to restart operations, despite ongoing challenges facing the British steel industry. The UK government has stated that the sale process is ongoing and that efforts remain focused on safeguarding jobs and preserving domestic steelmaking capacity.

[SMM Steel] Vietnam steel prices are expected to rise in Q2 2026

[SMM Steel] Vietnam Steel Association expects steel demand in 2026 to grow around 10%, supported by construction activity and public investment. Data from MBS Research shows Q1 2026 growth led by construction steel (+12%) and HRC (+30%), while coated steel rose about 5%. Steel prices also increased in Q1, with construction steel up ~4% and HRC nearly 3%. The uptrend is expected to strengthen in Q2 amid improving demand and reduced pressure from Chinese supply.
