On January 12, 2026, following market consultations at the end of 2025, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s national mining company Gécamines announced the exercise of its shareholder rights. Gécamines will directly procure 100,000 tons of copper from the TFM Copper-Cobalt Mine, which represents 20% of the total copper output for the year 2026. The copper will be shipped in batches to the U.S. market during the 2026 fiscal year. This move aims to fulfill specific expectations outlined in several agreements recently reached between the United States and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
