【SMM Steel】Canada Initiates Expiry Review Probe on Heavy Plate from Taiwan and Germany

Published: Jan 8, 2026 16:57
【SMM Steel】The Canadian International Trade Tribunal launched a sunset review investigation on January 5, 2026, to examine anti-dumping measures on heavy plate imports. The inquiry aims to assess whether revoking the current anti-dumping duties would likely lead to a resumption of dumping by Taiwan and Germany. Domestic producers in Canada are concerned that removing these protections could cause financial injury. The Canada Border Services Agency will determine the likelihood of continued dumping by June 4, 2026. If the agency finds a persistent threat, the CITT will then decide by November 10, 2026, whether to maintain the existing anti-dumping measures. The products involved are hot-rolled carbon steel plate and high-strength low-alloy steel plate, in cut lengths, with a width exceeding 72 inches (1,829 mm) up to and including 152 inches (3,860 mm), and a thickness from 0.375 inches (9.525 mm) to 4.5 inches (114.3 mm) inclusive, excluding plate in coil form and floor plate.

Silicon Metal Price Center Remained in the Doldrums [SMM Silicon Industry Weekly Review]
[Silicon Metal Price Center Remained in the Doldrums]: This week, the silicon metal market stayed weak, with the transaction center for some silicon metal grades edging lower. As of April 2, SMM east China prices were oxygen-blown #553 silicon at 9,000-9,200 yuan/mt, down 100 yuan/mt WoW; 441# silicon at 9,300-9,400 yuan/mt, down 50 yuan/mt WoW; and 3303# silicon at 10,100-10,300 yuan/mt, down 100 yuan/mt WoW. In the futures market, the most-traded silicon metal contract remained weak, with the SI2605 contract closing at 8,300 yuan/mt on Thursday, down 435 yuan/mt WoW. Spot declines were narrower than futures prices, and the advantage in supplier shipments shifted from silicon enterprises to trading firms engaging in both spot and futures market. During the week, market prices were under pressure, while procurement volume from some downstream users and export traders increased, with transactions in some grades remaining moderate.
