According to a Reuters report cited by Mining.com, data released by Brazil's Ministry of Industry and Trade on Tuesday showed that the country's iron ore exports in 2025 increased by 7.1% YoY, reaching a record 416 million mt.
Brazil is one of the world's largest iron ore exporters. Increased production by Vale and growing foreign demand were key factors behind the export expansion.
Data indicated that this was the first time Brazil's iron ore exports exceeded 400 million mt. Exports remained strong in the final months of 2025, with both October and December shipments surpassing 40 million mt, approaching monthly records.
Brazil's previous annual export record was set in 2018, when exports totaled 390 million mt. In 2019, a tailings dam collapse at Vale led to a series of safety reviews that impacted production in subsequent years.
In Q3 2025, Vale's monthly production reached its highest level since 2018.
