SMM January 7 News:
Key Points: At the technological inflection point where the global new energy vehicle industry is evolving from "quantity" to "quality" and safety has become a core concern, HSKW-Tech has rapidly emerged as a notable new force in the field of solid-state/semi-solid-state batteries through its differentiated strategy. The company has precisely targeted the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) segment—a niche yet high-potential market—and the launch of the world's first high-power semi-solid-state battery system marks its transition from a technology explorer to an industry leader.

I. Technical Route: A Pragmatic and Innovative "Semi-Solid-State" Solution
HSKW-Tech focuses on "gel polymer semi-solid-state batteries," avoiding the solid-solid interface challenges of all-solid-state batteries by converting liquid electrolyte into a gel state.
The company has developed and mass-produced an innovative in-situ gelation technology based on "separator-coated polymer + electrolyte injection." This process involves pre-coating a special polymer on a conventional separator; after electrolyte injection, a stable, high-ionic-conductivity gel electrolyte layer forms in situ within the battery cell.

Route Advantages: Safety + Cost-Effectiveness
Safety Revolution: The gel/solid-state electrolyte membrane physically blocks lithium dendrites, eliminating the risk of thermal runaway caused by separator penetration in traditional batteries.
Excellent Environmental Adaptability: Maintains superior performance even at extreme low temperatures of -40°C, addressing a key challenge for EVs in cold regions.
Industry-Friendly: Fully compatible with existing liquid lithium battery production lines, requiring no massive equipment investment, enabling low-cost and rapid industrialization. It is currently the most feasible solution for mass production of solid-state batteries.

II. Battery Introduction: High-Power Semi-Solid-State Battery
HSKW-Tech’s core product is the world's first high-power semi-solid-state battery designed for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs).
Product Positioning: An ultra-high C-rate power battery specifically designed for HEVs, meeting the demands of frequent start-stop cycles and rapid charge-discharge operations in hybrid models.
Core Specifications: The individual battery cell measures 120mm × 65mm × 12.7mm. Only 96 cells are required to form a pack that meets the power needs of an entire HEV.
Performance Highlights: Cycle life covers the vehicle’s entire life cycle; excellent thermal stability eliminates the need for additional cooling systems in the battery pack, reducing complexity and manufacturing costs for automakers; significantly improved energy density while ensuring safety.

III. Planned Capacity: Hefei Base + Exclusive Mass Production Starting in 2026
Existing Base (Hefei Plant No. 1): Already equipped with mature annual capacity of 30,000 sets of lithium-ion batteries for HEVs. One-third of this (approximately 10,000 sets/year) can be quickly converted to semi-solid-state battery production.
Capacity Under Construction (Hefei Plant No. 2): Topped out in December 2025, expected to commence operation in 2026. This plant will add an annual capacity of 170,000 sets of high-power batteries, primarily for semi-solid-state battery production.
Total Capacity Plan: Once Plant No. 2 is operational, total capacity at the Hefei base will reach 200,000 sets/year, with expected output value exceeding 1.2 billion yuan. The company has also planned two additional factories to meet future large-scale order demands.
Mass Production and Installation Timetable: Mass production of semi-solid-state batteries is scheduled to begin exclusively in 2026. The goal is to equip at least 260,000 vehicles with its battery products within the next five years. The company has already been proactively approached by several automakers from Europe, the U.S., and Japan. IV. Patent Overview
Since its establishment in 2022, HSKW-Tech has precisely targeted the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) market, leveraging high-power battery technology as its entry point. It rapidly achieved a leap from technological breakthroughs to mass production in the field of semi-solid-state batteries, emerging as a "dark horse" in this niche segment.
Key patents include: "Separator Pre-coating + In-situ Gelation," specialized battery cell structural design for high-power requirements, and battery pack integration technology without an active cooling system.

V. Financing and Cooperation
R&D: Established deep collaborative R&D relationships with Yamagata University’s Next-Generation Battery Laboratory and its industrial partner BIH. This collaboration has been crucial for rapid technological breakthroughs.
Industry: Forged partnerships with upstream material and equipment suppliers, as well as downstream domestic and overseas mainstream automakers (particularly in the HEV sector), jointly promoting the maturity of the industry chain.

VI. Company Updates
Establishment and Team: Founded in 2022, the company’s founding team consists of world-class experts in battery and vehicle R&D from international automakers such as Nissan, with over 20 years of industry experience. The CTO is KISHIDA Ikuo.
Headquarters Relocation: Officially relocated to Yicheng Fortune Center in Beijing E-Town Economic-Technological Development Area, leveraging regional industrial advantages to accelerate development.
Milestones:
July 2024: Launched specialized R&D collaboration with Yamagata University and BIH.
November 2025: Globally debuted mass-production technology for high-power semi-solid-state batteries for HEVs.
December 2025: Topped out the second plant at the Hefei production site.

According to SMM forecasts, all-solid-state battery shipments will reach 13.5 GWh by 2028, while semi-solid-state battery shipments will reach 160 GWh. Global lithium-ion battery demand is projected to reach approximately 2,800 GWh by 2030, with the EV sector's lithium-ion battery demand showing a CAGR of around 11% from 2024 to 2030, ESS lithium-ion battery demand at a CAGR of about 27%, and consumer electronics lithium battery demand at a CAGR of roughly 10%. Global solid-state battery penetration is estimated at about 0.1% in 2025, with all-solid-state battery penetration expected to reach around 4% by 2030, and global solid-state battery penetration potentially approaching 10% by 2035.
