[SMM PV News] US state repurposes wastewater land for 250 MW solar plant

Published: Jan 6, 2026 18:23
Consumers Energy recently officially commissioned its largest PV asset, the 250 MW Muskegon Solar Center in Michigan. Constructed by Burns & McDonnell, the project innovatively utilizes idle land from a wastewater treatment plant instead of farmland, marking a critical step toward the company’s 2025 coal phase-out goal. The project integrates core equipment including First Solar bifacial modules, Array Technologies trackers, and Siemens Gamesa inverters. It is connected to the MISO power grid via a newly built 138-kV booster station and is expected to provide clean electricity for 40,000 households while generating significant economic benefits for the local community.
