[SMM Iron & Steel] Salzgitter AG Completes Shell of First DRI Plant for SALCOS Project

In a major milestone for European green steel, Salzgitter AG announced the completion of the structural shell for its first Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plant in Salzgitter, Germany. The plant, part of the SALCOS (Salzgitter Low CO2 Steelmaking) program, has a designed capacity of 2 million tonnes of DRI per year. Once operational in 2026, it will replace one traditional blast furnace, utilizing green hydrogen to reduce carbon emissions by over 95% compared to the traditional coal-based route.
