Korean Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment to Exempt Import Guarantee for Recyclable EV Waste Batteries

Published: Dec 29, 2025 11:06

South Korea’s Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment announced on the 28th that it will open a public consultation on a partial amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Transboundary Movement of Waste and Its Disposal through February 2 next year.

The import guarantee system requires waste importers to purchase insurance or deposit treatment costs to cover potential disposal or remediation in cases where imported waste is abandoned, illegally dumped, or causes environmental pollution. Under the amendment, electric vehicle waste batteries have been added to the list of ten waste categories exempt from the import guarantee requirement, alongside scrap copper and scrap aluminum.

Limited Short-Term Upside and Downside for Ferrous Metals [SMM Steel Industry Chain Weekly]
This week, finished steel rebounded slightly after consolidating at lows, while coking coal and coke showed overall satisfactory performance. ADC12 Market Stable with Limited Upside Due to Cost Support and Weak Demand
[SMM Aluminum Alloy Daily Review] Today, ADC12 market quotations were mostly stable and wait-and-see, with only a few enterprises tentatively raising prices by 100 yuan/mt. Against the backdrop of limited demand support, although the cost side provided some floor to prices, spot upward momentum remained insufficient, and enterprises generally held a cautious attitude toward price adjustments. In the short term, the ADC12 spot market is expected to continue moving sideways, with the price center unlikely to decline significantly due to cost support. However, before a substantial improvement in end-use demand, upside room for spot prices is likely to remain constrained.
