According to China Space News today, the 510th Research Institute of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) achieved a series of major breakthroughs in the development of aluminum aerospace pressure vessels.

Four products, including a 16.5-liter aluminum-lined carbon fiber composite krypton gas cylinder, a 100-liter aluminum alloy diaphragm tank, a 490-liter aluminum alloy surface tension tank, and a 950-liter composite-reinforced aluminum alloy surface tension tank, were successively developed and passed test assessments. This marks the official transition of the institute's aerospace pressure vessel products from the titanium alloy era to a new stage of "simultaneous advancement of titanium and aluminum," establishing a new development pattern of "parallel development of titanium and aluminum products."

Aluminum aerospace pressure vessels offer significant advantages such as lightweight design, resistance to low-temperature corrosion, and flexible design and manufacturing, meeting the urgent demand in the aerospace field for low-cost, high-reliability products. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the 510th Research Institute proactively laid out this key direction, forming a dedicated team to tackle technical challenges. After nearly two years of efforts, the team comprehensively mastered the core technologies across the entire process, achieving a transformation in the product system.
