[SMM Flash News] 3D Printing Technology Disrupts Tradition, New-Type Heat-Resistant Aluminum Alloy Turns Iron from "Harmful" to "Beneficial"

Published: Dec 26, 2025 15:28
A research team has used 3D printing technology to overturn the traditional notion that iron is a harmful impurity in aluminum alloys. By leveraging the extremely rapid cooling characteristics of laser powder bed fusion, they have locked iron into a metastable phase within the strengthening structure, successfully developing a new-type heat-resistant aluminum alloy. This material can maintain high strength and good ductility at 300 degrees Celsius, making it potentially applicable for high-temperature components in the automotive and aerospace industries. It also provides a new framework for designing 3D-printed metal materials.
