[SMM PV News] Japan plans to tighten laws around large-scale solar

Published: Dec 26, 2025 09:05
The Japanese government is introducing a 'Mega Solar Countermeasure Package' to tighten regulations on large-scale solar farms due to environmental and landscape concerns. Key measures include stricter environmental impact assessments, the potential creation of a third-party safety verification body, and the possible discontinuation of FIT/FIP financial support for large ground-mounted solar starting April 2027. Despite these restrictions on "mega solar," Japan plans to continue supporting residential installations, existing facilities, and the development of perovskite solar technology.
