At launch, BYD is offering a lineup of eight models in Iraq, evenly split between plug-in hybrid vehicles and pure battery electric vehicles.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD has formally entered the Iraqi market, staging a high-profile launch event in Baghdad that marked both its official brand debut in the country and the local premiere of the BYD SHARK 6, a plug-in hybrid pickup designed for diverse driving and usage conditions, according to a press release BYD issued last Friday.

Speaking at the event, Huang Zhixue, the head of BYD's automotive sales operations for the Middle East and Africa, described Iraq as a strategically important market within the company's regional expansion plan. He highlighted the country's long-term growth potential and said BYD aims to introduce advanced new energy technologies, a broad product portfolio, and sustained value for local consumers.

At launch, BYD is offering a lineup of eight models in Iraq, evenly split between plug-in hybrid vehicles and pure battery electric vehicles. The diversified range is intended to address a wide spectrum of mobility needs and usage scenarios, giving Iraqi consumers greater flexibility as the market begins to embrace electrified transport.

Beyond vehicle sales, BYD is moving to establish a comprehensive ownership and service ecosystem in Iraq. Dedicated after-sales service centers are set to open progressively, providing maintenance, technical support, and customer services aimed at ensuring a reliable and consistent ownership experience.

The Iraq launch underscores BYD's deepening footprint across the Middle East and Africa. As the company expands its regional presence, it says it will continue to support the shift toward cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable mobility solutions across these emerging markets.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
