It marks a new step in cooperation between the automotive and port sectors on low-carbon technology development.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 18, BYD and Shenzhen Port Group officially inaugurated their jointly established Marine Green New Energy Innovation Laboratory, marking a new step in cooperation between the automotive and port sectors on low-carbon technology development.

Positioned as a practical platform supporting China's maritime development strategy and its carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, the new laboratory places electric energy at the center of its efforts. By closely linking real-world application scenarios with product development, the partners aim to follow a clear pathway from technology breakthroughs to pilot deployment and eventual large-scale rollout. The initiative is designed to bridge research, application, and industrialization, accelerating the expansion of battery technologies across a wider range of marine and port-related uses while injecting fresh momentum into the sustainable growth of the marine economy.

BYD will contribute its core strengths in energy storage and power battery technologies, working alongside Shenzhen Port Group to deepen resource coordination. Through this partnership, the two sides plan to tackle critical technical challenges, deliver landmark demonstration projects, and help foster new forms of productivity tailored to the marine sector.

Looking ahead, the collaboration will concentrate on four priority areas: electric vessels, green ports, zero-carbon logistics, and marine renewable energy. Using the joint innovation laboratory as a flagship platform, BYD and Shenzhen Port Group aim to more tightly integrate technological innovation with industrial development. The partnership is expected to support Shenzhen's ambition to become a global marine hub while contributing clean energy solutions to the long-term, sustainable development of the marine economy.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
