[SMM PV News] India passes 132.8 GW of installed solar capacity

Published: Dec 22, 2025 09:17
India’s cumulative installed solar capacity reached 132.85 GW as of November 30, 2025, with ground-mounted projects dominating the mix at 100.80 GW, followed by grid-connected rooftop systems at 23.16 GW, off-grid systems at 5.55 GW, and hybrid installations at 3.34 GW. Geographically, deployment remains concentrated in three key states—Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra—which together account for over 58% of the national total, led by Rajasthan with approximately 36 GW. While utility-scale projects continue to drive the bulk of capacity additions, the central government is actively accelerating decentralized solar deployment through major initiatives such as the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which targets residential rooftops, and the PM-KUSUM scheme, which aims to add 34.8 GW via agricultural solar pumps and farm-based power plants, alongside specialized off-grid programs for remote tribal regions where grid connectivity is not economically viable.
