Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 11, Dongfeng Nissan marked a major production milestone as the 50,000th Nissan N7 rolled off the line, making it the fastest joint-venture-made BEV in China to reach that volume.

Since its market launch in April this year, the mid-to-large pure-electric sedan has introduced five variants priced between 119,900 yuan and 149,900 yuan. Demand surged immediately, with 10,000 units confirmed orders secured within 18 days and 20,000 units within the first 50 days.

Reaching the 50,000-unit mark in just about 200 days underscores how swiftly the N7 has broken out as a bestseller in its segment. Its strong performance comes at a time when most joint-venture brands are struggling to gain traction in China's fast-moving BEV market, signaling a rare turnaround for a JV new energy vehicle model.

To keep up with demand, Dongfeng Nissan's Wuhan plant shifted to round-the-clock operations earlier this year. The company coordinated with 161 key suppliers and adopted an hour-level scheduling mechanism for critical components, ensuring that production and deliveries remained on track despite the surge in orders.

Retail performance has remained strong. The Nissan N7 surpassed the 10,000-unit monthly sales threshold in August, and by the end of October its cumulative volume had reached 39,441 units, averaging more than 6,500 sales per month.

On the distribution front, Dongfeng Nissan has expanded its infrastructure to 100 delivery centers and 500 retail locations. It has also adopted a model separating ordering, delivery and service. As a result, customers typically receive their vehicles within two weeks, a significant improvement for a joint-venture brand.

The N7 is built on Dongfeng Nissan's new Tianyan architecture and features a redesigned exterior and cabin. It runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8295P chip and incorporates Momenta's intelligent driving assistance stack. All variants use a single-motor setup, offering up to 635 km of CLTC range and supporting 3C fast charging.

In the fiercely competitive sub- 200,000-yuan BEV segment dominated by domestic brands, the N7's positioning between 119,900 yuan and 149,900 yuan—combined with comfort-oriented features and joint-venture quality assurances—has carved out a clear value niche. Its early success highlights how localized R&D and China-centric supply chains are becoming essential for joint-venture brands seeking to reinvent themselves.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
