Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 8, Inovance Automotive and power-semiconductor specialist Innoscience announced that their jointly developed 6.6 kW on-board charger, built on Innoscience's 650-volt GaN technology, has entered mass installation on Changan Automotive's vehicles. The milestone marks one of the most advanced GaN applications in automotive power systems to date, delivering industry-leading charging efficiency and power density that set a new benchmark for EV on-board power units.

The new solution integrates the on-board charger and DC-DC converter into a single GaN-based module. By pairing holistic system-level design with the low-loss, high-frequency characteristics of Innoscience's 650-V GaN devices, the platform delivers notable gains in performance. Power density rises by nearly 30% to 4.8 kW per liter, overall system efficiency improves by more than two percentage points versus comparable products, and total weight is reduced by roughly 20%. These improvements help NEV manufacturers achieve greater charging efficiency while advancing lightweight vehicle design.

Beyond efficiency gains, the compact integration of the OBC and DC-DC unit frees up interior packaging space and offers automakers more flexibility in vehicle layout. For consumers, the higher charging efficiency translates into faster charging sessions and measurable energy savings, ultimately supporting improved driving range.

With the GaN-based OBC system now rolling off the line in Changan models, the two companies see the achievement as a significant step forward for GaN commercialization in automotive applications. Both Inovance Automotive and Innoscience say they will continue to deepen their collaboration to drive the EV industry toward higher efficiency and more sustainable power-electronics architecture.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
