Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 10, 2025, OPPO said it had signed a global patent licensing agreement with Audi, giving the German automaker access to a portfolio of cellular standard-essential patents, including key 5G technologies. The deal allows Audi to deploy OPPO's communication innovations across its worldwide product lineup, aiming to strengthen the connectivity capabilities of its next-generation vehicles and improve in-car digital experiences.

Lin Weizhi, who oversees patent licensing at OPPO, said the agreement underscores a shared ambition between the wireless technology provider and the automotive sector to advance seamless connectivity and cross-industry collaboration. He added that the deal also reflects OPPO's long-term commitment to building a sustainable intellectual-property ecosystem that supports continuous innovation and broader industry progress.

Michael Fritz, Audi's chief officer for IP licensing, said the pact demonstrates that negotiations over standard-essential patents can move forward constructively when approached with balance and transparency. He noted that the collaboration highlights Audi's respect for intellectual property and its intention to forge win-win solutions. According to Fritz, such partnerships broaden Audi's technology ecosystem and translate into better products and services for its customers.

The Audi agreement marks the third bilateral patent licensing deal OPPO has signed with a major automaker, underscoring the growing relevance of its cellular SEP portfolio in the automotive field. Industry data from LexisNexis IPlytics shows that as of January 2025, OPPO ranked eighth worldwide in overall 5G patent strength—an indication of its expanding influence in advanced mobile communication technologies.

By September 2025, OPPO had filed more than 117,000 patent applications worldwide, with over 65,000 already granted. The company continues to channel significant investment into areas such as 5G and 6G networks, artificial intelligence, fast-charging systems, and imaging technologies—efforts aimed at reinforcing its position as a global leader in high-value IP. OPPO said it plans to deepen collaboration with partners across the ecosystem to accelerate innovation in connected devices and broader mobile platforms.
