Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Tesla announced on December 8 that its Gigafactory Shanghai has produced its four millionth vehicle, marking another rapid milestone for the company's largest manufacturing hub. The plant reached the three-million mark only 14 months earlier, underscoring the speed at which production capacity has continued to scale.

Tesla currently operates four vehicle plants worldwide—Fremont in California, Austin in Texas, Berlin in Germany and the Gigafactory Shanghai. Among them, Shanghai has become the company's central export hub and its most productive facility.

Located in the Lin-gang Special Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the 860,000-square-meter plant has been in operation since 2019. In the six years since, it has become Tesla's most efficient operation, contributing nearly half of the company's global deliveries, according to official statements. The facility has achieved a local-sourcing rate above 95 percent and now completes one vehicle roughly every half minute.

Recent sales figures also highlight Tesla's momentum in China. Preliminary data from the China Passenger Car Association showed that domestic sales of China-built Tesla vehicles rose 9.9% in November to 86,700 units. Output from the Shanghai plant—including Model 3 sedans and Model Y SUVs sold in China as well as exported to Europe and other regions—climbed 41% month-on-month.

The milestone vehicle was a starlight-gold Model Y Long Range (Model Y L), a six-seat premium electric SUV hitting the market in August and delivered since early September, priced at 339,000 yuan.

The long-range variant features a 2-2-2 seating configuration, with an extended wheelbase of 3,040 mm, a longer body and increased height to provide greater interior volume. Total cargo capacity reaches 2,539 liters, enough to accommodate multiple large suitcases even with all six seats occupied. The model uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup delivering 142 kW at the front and 198 kW at the rear, enabling 0–100 km/h acceleration in 4.5 seconds. It carries an 82-kWh ternary-lithium battery pack with a CLTC range of 751 kilometers and energy consumption rated at 12.8 kWh per 100 km.
