【SMM Steel】Nippon Steel & Nakayama Steel Works Sign Joint-Venture Deal

【SMM Steel】Nippon Steel has partnered with domestic company Nakayama Steel Works to establish a joint venture tentatively named NN STEEL LLC, which will construct and operate an electric arc furnace at Nakayama's plant. Under the agreement, Nakayama will hold 51% stake in the new company with Nippon Steel owning the remaining 49%. With declining domestic steel demand, Nippon Steel aims to combine both companies' strengths to reduce costs and expand product offerings. The new furnace will produce steel slabs for processing into hot-rolled coils and other finished steel products by Nakayama, which Nippon Steel will then purchase and distribute. The move targets enhanced production flexibility, cost reduction and improved service for Japan's construction and industrial sectors.
