ams OSRAM announced a new AR-HUD collaboration with Leapmotor on the application fo AR-HUD technology.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On November 25, ams OSRAM announced a new AR-HUD collaboration with Leapmotor during the company's 2025 aOTF Explorer Conference, unveiling that the latest Leapmotor C11 is equipped with its high-performance OSTAR™ Projection RGB LED light source for DLP-based augmented-reality head-up displays.

As premium features continue to filter down to more affordable models, AR-HUD systems have quickly moved from premium vehicles into the mid-market segment. Yet the technology's intricate optical requirements and cost barriers remain a challenge for automakers. Leapmotor's decision to offer a DLP-based AR-HUD on the new C11 marks a significant step toward mainstream adoption, accelerating the technology's path to mass-market availability.

The 2026 C11 model has recorded sales of more than 30,000 units within three months of its launch, supported by upgrades spanning design, cabin intelligence, driving range, driver-assistance performance, handling, and safety. With Ams OSRAM's OSTAR™ Projection LEDs, the vehicle's 60-inch AR-HUD becomes a standout element of the refreshed cockpit, delivering improved clarity, visibility, and interaction.

The compact optical package enables flexible customization of projection size, field of view, and virtual image distance, allowing Leapmotor to achieve an expansive 60-inch display area. Navigation guidance, speed data, blind-spot visuals, and even reverse-camera images are projected seamlessly into the driver's forward line of sight.

The LEDs' high energy density supports output levels enabling peak brightness of up to 16,000 nits. This allows the AR-HUD to remain sharp and legible under direct sunlight or when viewed through polarized lenses. With color accuracy rated above 95% and a wider color gamut, route guidance and driving information appear more lifelike, improving recognition speed and overall safety.

Beyond in-cabin projections, the technology also supports enhanced interaction between the vehicle and its surroundings. The C11's AR-HUD offers three display modes—speed, AR, and map—with seamless switching that reduces reliance on the traditional instrument cluster and improves safety by keeping the driver's gaze on the road.

Designed for both DMD and LCoS projection architectures, the OSTAR™ Projection line spans RGB LED chips ranging from 0.5 mm² to 4 mm². This range allows automakers to select options that best match their optical engines and system layouts, ensuring optimal light conversion efficiency and consistent performance across varying vehicle platforms.
