For the first time, Pony.ai's Gen-7 Robotaxis have achieved city-wide unit economics (UE) breakeven in Guangzhou.

Pony.ai, a global leader in autonomous driving technology development and commercialization, today reported that its seventh-generation (Gen-7) Robotaxi has reached a pivotal profitability milestone, laying a strategic foundation for scalable domestic and international expansion. This progress supports Pony.ai's ambitious goal of having more than 3,000 units in its fleet by the end of next year, backed by over US$800 million in new capital raised through its recent Hong Kong share offering.

For the first time, the company's Gen-7 Robotaxis have achieved city-wide unit economics (UE) breakeven in Guangzhou—just two weeks after entering commercial operations—with each vehicle completing an average of 23 daily orders. This rapid ramp-up has been driven by strong, broad-based customer demand and optimized operational efficiency. Pony.ai also reported steady progress in fleet growth, with 961 units in its fleet, keeping the company on track to surpass its 1,000-vehicle target by year-end.

Cost-efficiency improvements are set to further underpin next year's scaling plan. The bill-of-materials (BOM) for the autonomous driving kits (ADK) on the seventh-generation (Gen-7) Robotaxi platform is projected to decline by another 20% from the 2025 baseline for the 2026 production run. This follows a 70% BOM cost reduction the company has already achieved for the Gen-7 kit versus the prior generation.

According to its Q3 2025 earnings report, Pony.ai delivered strong top-line growth in the third quarter as Robotaxi scaling increasingly translates into earnings momentum. Total Q3 revenue rose 72% year-over-year to US$25.4 million, driven by sustained expansion in both Robotaxi services and Licensing & Applications, marking three consecutive quarters of growth this year.

Robotaxi service revenue surged 89.5% year-over-year to US$6.7 million. Fare-charging revenue alone increased more than 200% year-over-year, supported by rising user demand in tier-one Chinese cities and improvements in fleet operations and pricing strategies.

Dr. Leo Wang, Chief Financial Officer of Pony.ai, noted: “In the third quarter, we delivered robust top-line growth and further enhanced our financial position. The net proceeds from our recent Hong Kong IPO have significantly strengthened our balance sheet. Combined with the pivotal milestone of Gen-7 Robotaxi city-wide unit economics breakeven in Guangzhou, the net proceeds have positioned us to accelerate the large-scale commercial expansion and to drive sustained, long-term growth.”

The company's asset-light cooperation model with ecosystem partners is poised to add further momentum to its growth by enhancing capital efficiency for future fleet expansion. Following its collaboration with Xihu Group in June, Pony.ai recently formed a new partnership with Sunlight Mobility to implement the same model. These alliances reflect growing market recognition of Pony.ai's approach, with more third-party partners willing to fund fleet deployment, thereby enabling faster network build-out.

Further supporting growth is the commercial rollout of the Gen-7 Robotaxis, which became available to the public in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Beijing in early November. Within one week of launch, newly registered users nearly doubled compared with late October, generating significant social media traction.

The company also broadened its service footprint in China's tier-one cities, adding high-value mobility corridors and high-traffic areas. In Shanghai, Pony.ai became the first company to launch fully driverless commercial Robotaxi operations in late July, initially in the Jinqiao and Huamu areas of Pudong, and extending coverage in September to Century Park and the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. In Shenzhen, fully driverless operations expanded across Nanshan District—including Shekou and Overseas Chinese Town—beginning in late August. The number of pickup and drop-off points in Shenzhen now exceeds 10,000, a more than 300% increase since late June.

Meanwhile, Pony.ai continued advancing its global reach across eight countries through strategic partnerships. The company entered the Qatar market with Mowasalat, the country's largest transportation service provider, while strengthening its presence in Singapore, Luxembourg, and South Korea through expanded service scope and deeper local collaboration. Further supporting its global strategy, Pony.ai is collaborating with key shareholders who participated in its Hong Kong IPO—including Uber and Bolt—to explore and scale operations in overseas markets.

Beyond Robotaxi development, Pony.ai is also building its second growth engine. The company recently introduced its fourth-generation Robotruck lineup, developed with partners including SANY Truck. The Gen-4 platform is engineered for mass production at the thousand-unit scale, with initial fleet deployment slated for 2026.
