【SMM Stainless Steel Market】EU Appeals WTO Ruling on Indonesian Stainless Steel, Suspending Case Indefinitely

【SMM Stainless Steel Market】The European Union has appealed a World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling that faulted its anti-dumping and countervailing duties on Indonesian cold-rolled stainless steel. Due to the WTO Appellate Body's non-functional status, this appeal effectively suspends the ruling indefinitely, a tactic known as "appealing into the void." The original panel had found the EU's subsidy calculations inconsistent with WTO rules. Indonesia condemned the move as "appalling," while the EU argued it had no choice after Indonesia refused to join the alternative Multi-Party Interim Appeal Arbitration Arrangement (MPIA).
