Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Volkswagen used the Auto Guangzhou 2025 to stage the global debut of two new PHEV models developed specifically for the Chinese market: the SAIC Volkswagen Passat ePro and FAW-Volkswagen's updated Tayron L PHEV. Their introduction marks another step in the group's acceleration of its electrified portfolio in China.

The German automaker reiterated its commitment to expanding its local new energy vehicle (NEV) lineup, saying it plans to launch 21 NEV models in China by 2027, with the total expanding to 31 by 2029.

Making its first public appearance, the Passat ePro pairs Volkswagen's latest electrified technology with a more refined design language aimed at repositioning the midsize plug-in hybrid sedan segment. Built on SAIC Volkswagen's next-generation PHEV-dediacted architecture, the model incorporates the EA211 1.5T EVO II engine designed specifically for hybrid applications.

The sedan's exterior emphasizes clean lines and balanced proportions. A redesigned front fascia—featuring a full-width LED light bar, matrix-style headlamps and an illuminated badge—gives the Passat ePro a more high-tech appearance. Its sweeping roofline, pronounced shoulder contour, petal-style wheels and wing-shaped rear light bar combine to create a more assertive, contemporary look.

FAW-Volkswagen's all-new Tayron L PHEV represents the brand's latest effort in the PHEV space. The model builds on the existing Tayron L platform but introduces upgrades to its powertrain, digital features and exterior styling to address growing consumer demand for more capable, higher-end hybrid SUVs.

The SUV pairs a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with Volkswagen's latest high-voltage battery system, a combination engineered to deliver both responsive performance and the durability and safety standards long associated with the Tayron nameplate.

Volkswagen's booth at the Auto Guangzhou 2025 adopted an immersive, futuristic layout designed to showcase the brand's next phase in China. At the center of the display, the new PHEV lineup was presented alongside the forward-looking ID. EVO, ID. ERA and ID. AURA concept cars. The combined showing underscored Volkswagen's efforts to deepen its China-focused product DNA while highlighting the group's broader push toward intelligent, connected mobility.
