EU Considers 30% Export Tariff on Scrap Metals

The EU is advancing its Circular Economy Package, targeting an increase in material circularity to 24% by 2030. To retain raw materials in the region, policymakers are considering imposing around 30% export tariffs on scrap metals. The initiative may reshape global scrap copper and recycled metals flows while strengthening the EU’s domestic smelting and recycling value chain.
