SMM News, November 11:
Key Points: In November 2025, BYD's FinDreams Battery updated the official technical information graphic for consumer batteries on its website, listing solid-state electrolytes under electrolytes as part of chemical innovations. Other materials, such as high-energy-density ternary cathode materials, high-energy-density silicon-based anodes, and ultra-thin, high-viscosity separators, were also integrated with solid-state electrolytes to form a closed loop for solid-state batteries.

BYD is one of the six enterprises involved in the R&D, advancement, and commercial application of solid-state battery products and technologies supported by national subsidies. Its solid-state battery business is being advanced by its subsidiary, FinDreams Battery.
Due to challenges in producing large-format solid-state battery cells, inconsistent batch stability, and downstream industries' sensitivity to the cost of solid-state batteries, the initial application areas for solid-state batteries will start with small batteries, low energy storage requirements, and cost-insensitive fields such as 3C consumer electronics, the low-altitude economy, and humanoid robots.
FinDreams Battery's applications will also begin in these three areas. Its website updated the official technical information graphic for consumer batteries, listing solid-state electrolytes under electrolytes as part of chemical innovations. Other materials, such as high-energy-density ternary cathode materials, high-energy-density silicon-based anodes, and ultra-thin, high-viscosity separators, were also integrated with solid-state electrolytes to form a closed loop for solid-state batteries.

BYD's overall solid-state battery roadmap is as follows:
- 2027: Small-scale installation in vehicles is planned.
- 2030: Achieve cost parity between solid-state and liquid batteries and expand to 40,000 units.
- 2033: Achieve installation in 120,000 units and increase market share.

The Chongqing Bishan base is planned with a capacity of 100 GWh, with the first phase of 20 GWh expected to commence production in 2026. At the 2025 Second China All-Solid-State Battery Innovation and Development Summit, BYD's CTO Sun Huajun announced that the company had already produced a 60 Ah all-solid-state battery sample in 2024. Through "sulphide electrolyte process optimization + mass production adaptation of silicon-based anodes," the cost during the mid-2025 pilot phase had been reduced to 1,200 yuan/kWh, a 33% decrease from the 2023 sample cost (1,800 yuan/kWh).
Cost reduction: The adoption of an "integrated solid-phase sintering process" replaced traditional step-by-step synthesis, increasing production efficiency by 25% and raising yield from 65% to 85%. The use of NCM811 high-nickel materials instead of cobalt-based materials in the cathode reduced material costs by 20%. With the addition of the 20 GWh pilot production line in Shenzhen commencing operation in 2026, the battery cell cost is indeed expected to be reduced to 500 yuan/kWh during the 2027 demonstration installation phase.
According to SMM projections, all-solid-state battery shipments are expected to reach 13.5 GWh by 2028, while semi-solid-state battery shipments are forecast to reach 160 GWh. By 2030, global lithium-ion battery demand is estimated to be around 2,800 GWh, with the compound annual growth rates from 2024 to 2030 for lithium-ion battery demand in EVs, ESS, and consumer electronics at approximately 11%, 27%, and 10%, respectively. The global penetration rate of solid-state batteries is projected to be around 0.1% in 2025, and is expected to reach about 4% for all-solid-state batteries by 2030. By 2035, the global penetration rate of solid-state batteries may approach 10%.

In January, national passenger car producers' new energy wholesale estimates reached 900,000 units, up 1% YoY.
According to the latest data from the Passenger Car Association, in December 2025, producers with new energy wholesale sales exceeding 10,000 units accounted for 93% of the total wholesale sales of passenger NEVs that month. Based on preliminary January data, these producers achieved sales of 830,000 units in January. As most producers have already locked in their major sales figures, by applying the structural proportion from the previous month to the current month's data, the estimated wholesale sales of passenger NEVs nationwide in January were 900,000 units. According to comprehensive preliminary monthly association data: the estimated wholesale sales of NEVs by national passenger car producers in January 2026 were 900,000 units, up 1% YoY.
