According to the Mining Journal, Lundin Gold has made new progress in exploration around the Fruta del Norte gold mine in Ecuador.
At the Sandia porphyry system, all drill holes encountered widely distributed mineralization, including the highest-grade mineralization encountered to date at surface.
◎Hole SND-2025-335 intersected 606.7 meters of ore at a depth of 21.4 meters, with grades of 0.49% copper, 0.1 g/mt gold, 2.41 g/mt silver, and 0.0016% molybdenum, equivalent to a copper grade of 0.59%.
◎Hole SND-2025-326 intersected 568.15 meters of ore at a depth of 130.9 meters, with grades of 0.39% copper, 0.08 g/mt gold, 1.58 g/mt silver, and 0.0011% molybdenum, equivalent to a copper grade of 0.47%.
At the Trancaloma porphyry system, drilling continues to expand the ore body. Drilling at the Castillo target encountered shallow high-grade mineralization, confirming a new discovery and indicating the potential for additional ore bodies.
Lundin stated that the results from Sandia and Trancaloma suggest the potential for a large porphyry deposit.
"I am pleased to announce that the company's 2025 drilling intersected favorable mineralization, fully demonstrating the significant potential of the recently discovered porphyry mineralizing system," said CEO Ron Hochstein.
"The latest drilling results not only confirm the continuity of the Sandia and Trancaloma ore bodies but also indicate the presence of additional large porphyry deposits along this major mineralized belt."
"The high-grade ore bodies encountered at Sandia and Castillo are significant, indicating potential for both scale and grade improvement in these large porphyry deposits."
Hochstein revealed that the company expects to complete at least 108,000 meters of drilling this year. "This is the largest drilling program ever conducted at the Fruta del Norte project."
